Watkins Glen, NY – Have you ever wondered what it is about a place that makes it cool? Mind you, that’s a particularly interesting question if we’re talking about a small town. But, at the same time, it’s also a question that’s not easy to answer. This because a number of different small towns can have a number of different attractions.

Pretty Awesome Right Off The Bat

A home to just under 2,000 souls, Watkins Glen is actually a village, even though we refer to it as a town. It is located in Schuyler County, New York and is, at the same time, the county seat. Since its incorporation back in 1842, it has changed names repeatedly. Originally dubbed Salubria, it was also called Jefferson, then Watkins. Finally, its present name of Watkins Glen was adopted in 1926.

Basically, this incredible place gives visitors the feeling of walking into a fairytale. This might have to do with the fact that it is set in the gorgeous Finger Lakes region, which we’ve also covered in one of our previous articles. Seneca Lake is its first neighbor, to be precise. In itself, this fact alone is more than enough to signal an unforgettable visit any day of the week!
