Nebraska City – This gorgeous place is known far and wide as “The Home of Arbor Day.” This is because this town was the home of the first Secretary of Agriculture of the United States, Mr. J. Sterling Morton. His estate, Arbor Lodge, is open today as a museum. Mr. Sterling Morton was famous for promoting the planting of trees on the prairie for windbreaks, fruit and, most importantly, shade.
