Saugatuck – Located in Allegan County, Michigan, Saugatuck has a population of just under 950. It became a noted art colony and tourist destination, along with the adjacent city of Douglas, in the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century. Having started off as a lumber town and port, the town was home to the famous Big Pavilion in the early 20th century. The Pavilion was a massive dance hall that attracted visitors and bands from all over the Midwest. Unfortunately, it burned down in 1960. Continue reading…
