Bethesda – Situated just northwest of Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, Bethesda is actually a census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland. The name comes from the Bethesda Meeting House, which is a local church built in 1820and then rebuilt in 1849. This church, however, got its name from the Pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem.
