Kahuku, HI – Is there really a need to praise Hawaii as one of the most breathtaking destinations in the world? We, your travel maniacs at HopAmerica.com, don’t think so. Yet, every time we venture to this part of the globe, we can’t help but be amazed at what we find. In addition to timeless and otherworldly natural wonders and scenery, the 50th state is also home to some pretty darn awesome small towns. We’ve already talked about Paia in a previous article, but now we’d like to focus on Kahuku.

Kahuku, HI – A Paradise For Shrimp Lovers

With just over 2,400 people calling Kahuku their home, it’s easy to see why this Hawaiian small town is so appealing. Located in the island of Oahu’s County of Honolulu, or more precisely, in Ko’olauloa District, this CDP can be found between Turtle Bay and Laie. Now, despite it being located on such a prominent island like Oahu, it’s often overshadowed by other, larger attractions in Hawaii.

Yet, since we at HopAmerica are suckers when it comes to some good shrimp, we had no trouble finding our way here. Several shrimp farms in town mean this place is heaven for the likes of us, and we had some fun at Giovanni’s, which we recommend. We went for the shrimp with lemon and butter, and rice on the side. You have other options, but this is another recommendation, as far as we’re concerned.

Made Famous By A Number Of Different Factors

Popular hangouts in and around town include Kahuku Beach, which is particularly loved by fishermen. However, it’s less than ideal for swimmers. This has to do with a rocky ocean bottom and long limestone shelf that makes it difficult to enter the ocean. We were told this when we first arrived in town, but had to try it out for ourselves. Needless to say, we gave up pretty quickly. So, Kahuku Beach 1, Hop America team 0. However, the Kahuku Golf Course is right across from the beach. We have to say, there aren’t that many experiences out there like a round of golf while gazing upon the ocean on a bright morning.

The word “Kahuku” actually means “the projection” in Hawaiian, which is an interesting fact. Most likely, the term refers to nearby Kahuku Point, which happens to be the northernmost point of Oahu. And speaking of the northern part of the island, it also happens to be the home of the Turtle Bay Resort. It’s a particularly nice place to see and have fun, in addition to having been featured on the television show “North Shore.” After some snorkeling or swimming, you can have fun at the nice beach, or visit the restaurant on site and have a delicious snack to refuel for continuing your exploration.

Why Try The Rest When You Can Go For The Best?

At the end of the day, you know what they say – any trip to Hawaii is a good trip. And regardless of whether you choose to theme your visit by checking out Kahuku, you’re bound to have a blast. It’s a truly beautiful place that offers something for everybody, but the thing that struck us the most is its serenity. A relaxed vibe with nuances of subtle, daily excitements is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to the ideal vacation. At least in our book.
