“There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is having lots to do and not doing it.”Andrew Jackson

If there’s one thing that’s synonymous with the United States, it’s amusement parks. Generally boasting extremely thrilling or scary themes, these attractions mostly feature roller coasters as their centerpieces. Naturally, the experience of such places improves as does the technology for amusement and entertainment. In 2017, there are several new and thrilling rides that are going to see the light of day in prominent amusement parks across the country. So, for those of you looking to learn more about the craziest amusement park rides this year – you’re in the right place.

Hershey Park, PA

In Pennsylvania’s Hershey Park is the newest and coolest Hershey Triple Tower. It actually already opened on April 8. The towers drop riders from the legendary Hershey’s Kisses Tower, Reese’s Tower and (the aptly named) Hershey’s Tower from heights of 80, 131 and 189 feet (27, 40 and 58 meters) respectively. Each tower does so at varying speeds, making this one of the craziest amusement park rides at this location to date. What’s more, if the maximum speed of 45 miles per hour (73 kilometers per hour) doesn’t scare the bravest riders, they truly deserve bragging rights.

Disney World’s Pandora: The World Of Avatar, FL

Disney World’s Pandora: The World of Avatar in its Animal Kingdom area will, obviously, feature the world of Avatar made by James Cameron. The ride is set to open on May 27. Early reports suggest Disney aims to use live animatronics to animate the Na’vi inhabitants of the strange, lively and blue-palette world. As if the list of craziest amusement park rides needed something this peculiar, right? But, if the legendary director’s previous work is anything to go by, the World Of Avatar will truly be majestic.

OWA Theme Park, AL

In Alabama’s OWA Theme Park there’s a roller coaster named Rollin’ Thunder. The steel roller coaster is definitely not for the faint-hearted. It begins the climb not from a sloped course, but up a completely vertical hill, inducing the feeling of a space shuttle taking off. The most exciting/thrilling/scary (whichever floats your boat) thing is the 100-foot (30-meter) drop that sends riders into different, odd loops that pumps adrenaline everywhere. One of the craziest amusement park rides in the traditional sense – if there is such a thing – this theme park is right up there with the best.

Our Favorite Among The Craziest Amusement Park Rides This Year Is In Casino Pier, NJ

In New Jersey you’ll find the famous Casino Pier amusement park. In it, one is at awe at the mere sight of Hydrus. The simplest (though, in our opinion, also coolest-sounding) way to describe this Goliath would be to say that Hydrus is reminiscent of a phoenix rising from the ashes. The Hydrus roller coaster ride in the Pier amusement park has a 72-foot (22-meter) vertical drop enough to induce a millisecond zero gravity experience. Call us old fashioned, but there’s nothing quite like a bone-chilling, ginormous roller coaster drop. End of story.
