“Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.” – Coco Chanel
Tourism is an ever growing and developing business. It goes hand in hand with adventures, exploration and going beyond one’s comfort zone. But, the thing about comfort is, it’s hard to let go of it. That’s why luxury is always sought after during one’s travels, in one way or another. Recently, we, your travel maniacs at Hop America came across an app that helps you book luxury hotels by the minute. It’s great if you’re looking to both save money and have luxury on a trip.
What’s It All About?
Unfortunately, at the moment it’s only available in New York, San Francisco and Northern California. First launched in San Francisco in 2016, the Recharge app became available in New York on April 24. It offers in excess of 16 choices of luxury hotels in the Big Apple. As a result, you can book luxury hotels by the minute and get deals in establishments such as the W New York, The Knickerbocker Hotel, The Pierre (Taj), Hotel Central Park, and more.
New York luxury hotels typically charge $0.83 to $2 per minute (plus 14.75 percent lodging tax). In order to avoid such a one-off deal, you need only do the following. Simply download the Recharge app from Google Play or the App Store for free, find a hotel near you, and hit the “book now” button. What you’ll be left with is a sensible compromise that will provide the best bang for your buck.
Why Book Luxury Hotels By The Minute And Not The Traditional Way?
Your billing countdown will start as soon as you check into the hotel. Alternatively, you can also set it to 30 minutes after you hit the “book now” button. From there, you can stay as long as you want with no minimum time requirement. After you’re done, simply hit the “check out” button and pay at the front desk. Be careful, though. If you try to fool the system by checking out early, you’ll be charged with an overstay fee. Therefore, while the app is a really great way to book luxury hotels by the minute, it’s in no way a shortcut to getting a free meal.
The hotels involved are quite happy with this new arrangement, as by-the-minute deals are great for filling in excessive daytime vacancy levels. What’s more, according to Recharge Labs CEO Manny Bamfo, every single minute that you’re in a Recharge is a more valuable minute than if you were a regular overnight customer. As Recharge slowly gains popularity, Bamfo predicts a big future for the app. If all goes well, Recharge can soon be made available in the whole country. For those looking to book luxury hotels by the minute, that sounds like a very exciting future.
